“My grandson works at Lurie’s and he sent me a picture of an extender one of his co-workers made,” Hochstetler said. “So I made up a couple of the extenders and brought them to Crafty Crafters and asked if they’d be interested in making them for nursing homes and hospitals. They liked the idea and we got started right away.”
Hochstetler said the mask extenders “take the war and tear off the ear” for people who must wear masks all day.
She said the extenders are simple to make for anyone who knows how to knit or crochet.
Hochstetler can make an extender in 15 or 20 minutes, she said.
“The biggest problem is getting buttons.” she said.
