For just $49, I was able to feed four adults with a beef roll, chicken strips, two orders of onion rings and two orders of pretzels with beer cheese. Beef rolls are fairly common in central Illinois, but the Jerry’s Tap’s beef roll stood out. It wasn’t as cheesy as some of the others I’ve had, but the ingredients were all obviously homemade. The chicken strips have a thick, crisp breading that gives all the benefits of fried chicken without the bone. The chicken itself stayed juicy.

Also, it's hard to leave Jerry's Tap without ordering a frosty draft of 1919 root beer. If you eat inside, they'll serve it in a frosty mug the old-fashioned way, but it's still just as good on the go. Their beef rolls and pizza are available from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday, and from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and their Friday and Saturday menu features a more traditional menu with items such as cod, rib-eyes, chicken, burgers and other sandwiches. Their prices are mid-range. Appetizers run between $5 and $6, and a large beef roll costs $19, but it was large enough to feed four people.
