Yorkville Library Board accepts director's resignation

Yorkville Public Library Director Elisa Topper has resigned, leaving two library staff members to take over her duties on an interim basis.

The library board voted unanimously to accept Topper's resignation during a Nov. 12 meeting. Also during the Nov. 12 meeting, the board appointed Shelley Augustine, director of adult services, and Dixie DeBord, director of technical services, to serve as interim directors to manage the library until a new director is found.

Topper could not be immediately reached for comment.

"We're just happy that the library is open and we can continue to serve our clients," Augustine said Wednesday, Dec. 16.

Augustine would not comment on why Topper resigned.

In the meantime, the board will post a listing for a new director early next year, said Yorkville Alderman Dan Transier, the city council's liaison to the library.

"They need time to figure what type of person they're going to be looking for to lead the library," Transier said.
