Guns, cash and 103 pounds of pot seized in ISP stop

Driver faces multiple felony charges

MORRIS A traffic stop near the Interstate 80 Morris exit in Grundy County resulted in multiple felony charges and the seizure of three firearms (one of which had been stolen), 103 pounds of cannabis and $20,259.

Henry O. Umpierre, 33, of Cleveland, Ohio, was arrested on multiple felony charges Tuesday after an Illinois State Police District 5 trooper said cannabis and firearms were found in Umpierre's vehicle during a traffic stop.

After observing a vehicle traveling east on I-80 at milepost 112 near the Morris exit in Grundy County, the trooper conducted a traffic stop, during which probable cause to search the vehicle was established, the ISP said in a release.

A search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of 103 pounds of cannabis, three firearms (one of which had been stolen) and $20,259. Umpierre was arrested on multiple felony charges, including attempt to manufacture/deliver more than 5,000 grams of cannabis, a Class X felony; attempted cannabis trafficking – more than 5,000 grams, a Class 1 felony; possession of more than 5,000 grams of cannabis, a Class 1 felony; possession of a weapon by a felon, a Class 2 felony; possession of a stolen firearm, a Class 2 felony; and armed violence, a Class X felony.

Umpierre is being held at the Grundy County Jail and has been formally charged by the Grundy County state’s attorney. Umpierre’s bond is set at $150,000.
