AURORA TOWNSHIP – Kane County Sheriff's deputies arrested an Aurora Township man after a barricade situation Monday night.

According to a news release, deputies went to a home in the 800 block on S. Kendall St. in unincorporated Aurora around 8:30 p.m. to serve an arrest warrant for theft. The wanted man, John W. Emerson, 50, pointed a rifle at deputies when he answered the door. Emerson then went back into the house and barricaded the front door. Deputies observed a second person was also in the house.

The Kane County Special Weapons and Tactics Team responded and ordered Emerson to surrender, which he refused. An armored SWAT vehicle was used to push the front door and window open. Shortly after, Emerson and the other person in the home surrendered and were safely removed from the house.

Emerson was arrested for the outstanding theft warrant and is now being held at the Kane County Jail. The Sheriff's Office continues to investigate the incident.
