Although Oswego’s Little White School Museum is closed to the public due to the on-going pandemic, that’s not stopping them from spreading a little Christmas cheer during this holiday season.
Each year, the museum has hosted their popular “Toys from the Attic” special seasonal exhibit featuring vintage toys from the past that brightened Christmases during a span of more than a century. This year, with the museum closed, “Toys from the Attic” has gone virtual and is available online.
"Just go to our museum website at littlewhiteschoolmuseum.org, and click on 'Toys from the Attic' Virtual Exhibit in the right sidebar," museum director Roger Matile suggested. "Visitors will enjoy a video slideshow of vintage toys from tractors and trucks to dolls from our collections--along with some fascinating background on the toys provided by museum manager Tina Heidrich."
The virtual exhibit will be available through the holiday season on the museum’s website.
If making homemade Christmas treats is more in your line, you won’t want to miss the recipes Heidrich is posting that she collected from the museum’s collection of local cookbooks. The recipes are available by visiting the museum website and then clicking on “A Taste of History” in the right sidebar. The initial recipe, for Fern Gargrave’s Toffee Cookies, is from the 1975 "Favorite Recipes" cookbook containing recipes submitted by the Oswego Cafeteria Ladies.
“My family made these and they are delicious!” Heidrich said. “Best of all, they’re simple and very easy to make as well.”
Heidrich said other holiday-related recipes will be posted to the site during the season.
The Little White School Museum is a joint project of the not for profit Oswegoland Heritage Association and the Oswegoland Park District.
