Yingling highlights license, ID expiration extensions offered by Secretary of State

ROUND LAKE BEACH – With Secretary of State’s offices closed until Jan. 5 because of the COVID-19 surge, state Rep. Sam Yingling, D-Grayslake, is encouraging residents to take advantage of expiration date extensions for driver’s license and ID cards by using the online services.

“With the amount of disruption to daily life caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, it is important that our institutions do everything they can to be as flexible and helpful as possible,” Yingling said in a news release. “I applaud the Secretary of State’s decision to extend these expirations dates, and I encourage residents to utilize this opportunity.”

Expiration dates for driver’s licenses and ID cards will be extended until June 1, 2021.

Residents who are eligible to renew their driver’s licenses online will receive a letter with a PIN number needed to complete the renewal online. Commercial driver license holders and commercial permit holders will not have their expirations extended because of federal requirements.

Residents can visit www.cyberdriveillinois.com to renew license plate stickers, driver's licenses, and ID cards, as well as other services.
