DeKALB – Pita Pete's, a DeKalb staple for nearly two decades, will close its doors for the final time mid-December, according to a social media announcement Monday.
On Monday morning, Pita Pete's, 901 Lucinda Ave. in DeKalb, announced via a Facebook post that after 19 years of serving pitas to the DeKalb community, the restaurant will be permanently closing.
"I am incredibly grateful to the loyal customers and pita crew who have supported us through this pandemic and the many years before," the post reads.
The post did not mention the COVID-19 pandemic in its announcement.
Customers are invited to stop by, order their favorite pitas and purchase T-shirts before the restaurant closes permanently on Saturday, Dec. 19.
The business is also up for sale, according to a real estate listing, which lists the 1,200-square-foot space that seats about 50 for $45,000, though the listing values the business at $84,000.
The restaurant was a popular place among Northern Illinois University students and the community alike, the listing states, especially for their vegan pizza option.
They also offered offer chicken, philly cheese steaks, gyros, turkey, ham, and bacon, as well as, falafel, hummus, baba ghanoush, seitan, buffalo seitan, soups, hummus and baba ghanoush.
