Belvidere man sentenced to five years in prison for 2018 Woodstock theft

A Belvidere man convicted of stealing electronics, jewelry and musical instruments from a Woodstock home has been sentenced to five years in prison.

On Nov. 13, 24-year-old Trevor A. Hasselmann accepted a plea deal from the McHenry County State's Attorney's Office, court records show. In exchange for Hasselmann's guilty plea to a single felony count of theft, McHenry County Judge James Cowlin sentenced the man to five years in prison.

The charges stemmed from a September 21, 2018, theft that occurred while Hasselmann was temporarily staying at a home in Woodstock, according to a news release.

Hasselmann is accused of stealing about $7,500 worth of electronics, jewelry, games, musical instruments, tools, gaming systems and DVDs, according to court documents.

Hasselmann must service at least 50% of the prison term in accordance with Illinois truth-in-sentencing guidelines.
