One killed in car vs train accident in Granville

GRANVILLE — A person was killed early this morning in Granville after police say a vehicle struck a train.

Putnam County Sheriff Kevin Doyle, in a news release, stated deputies responded at 4:42 a.m. to a single-vehicle accident at the railroad crossing at East 1300 Street. Evidence at the scene indicated the vehicle struck the train, killing the driver and sole occupant.

The sheriff's department was assisted at the scene by Illinois State Police Accident Reconstruction unit, Norfolk Southern Railroad Police, Granville and Standard Fire, Putnam County EMS, Putnam County Death Investigator and Granville Township.

The name of the victim has not been released pending notification of next of kin. The accident remains under investigation at this time.
