To the Editor:
Where would all the local charity organizations have been this year if it wasn't for drive-thru dinners? Fern Dell Historic Association will be having another one this Saturday, Nov. 21.
Nope, not chicken and pork chops again. This time, 5-B's will be serving roast beef and ham, along with au-gratin potatoes and coleslaw, all for the amazingly low price of $14. But wait, there's more. You also get a dinner roll and a fruit cup. All dinners include roast beef and ham, no substitutions.
Diners can pick up this homey meal from 4 to 6 p.m. at the museum, located at the corner of Jackson and Front streets in beautiful downtown Newark. You can order meals by calling me at 815-214-0939, but this does not guarantee your meals, it just helps 5-B's plan for the amount of food to bring. Advance orders are not mandatory, but they are helpful.
All proceeds go toward the maintenance and upkeep of Fern Dell's four museum buildings, including a one-room schoolhouse, blacksmith's shop and two other buildings, housing tons of local memorabilia and literature. If you're searching for some family history, this is a good place to start, but please call first to set up an appointment because due to COVID-19 we are currently closed.
