Prep roundup: Newport leads DeKalb; Bend takes eighth at sectional for IC girls

Riley Newport took 18th place on Saturday at the Class 3A Lyons Township Sectional, helping DeKalb finish 12th as a team.

Newport finished in 15:42.78

On the girls side, Annika Burchell led the Barbs in 20:03.07, good for 90th. Leah Valentiner finished 99th in 20:23.50.

Bend takes eighth: Caroline Bend finished eighth on Saturday at the Class 1A Harvest Christian Academy Sectional.

Bend would have qualified for state had it not been canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Indian Creek sophomore finished in 20:14.60.
