Village of Neponset holds October meeting

The village of Neponset held its monthly meeting on Oct 21.

COMMITTEE REPORTS

* Residents were asked to set treats out for kids to take on Halloween, instead of handing them out. Trick-or-treat hours are from 5 to 7 p.m. Halloween trunk or treat hours will be from 5 to 6:30 p.m with the haunted windows at the Community Building set for 5 to 6:30 p.m.

* Mandy Donovan reported that abandoned cars and trucks are being moved. She made a motion to approve Ordinance 762, the 2020 Natural Hazards Mitigation Plan, which was approved unanimously.

* Eugene Costin reported the snowplow needs repairs as the spring broke on the blade.

* Ken Snyder said they are looking for volunteers to clean lots.

Markus Chapman said that Koener is coming next week to fix floats at the sewer plant. Chapman said that new village employee, David Souba, is working out fine, and would like to get water certification. He will also be trained to replace water meters.

MAYOR’S REPORT

• Shelter in the Park/Veteran's Memorial – They are selling quilt tickets and accepting bids on the Sunshine quilt that was donated back. There will not be a dedication for the memorial at this time as it isn't ready. There is roughly $20,000 in the account — $6,000 for veterans memorial, the rest will be for the pavilion restroom. The grant isn't available until next year. The Neponset Legion is planning on advancing money to assist with the cost.

* Ordinance 760 was passed to close the alley in Scott Park.

* Ordinance 761 was passed for the village to participate in the Local Cure Program.

* The board voted to increase the Methodist Church cleaning fee to $25 per week.
