Richmond-Burton sophomore Savannah Webb finished as runner-up at the Class 1A Antioch Girls Tennis Sectional Saturday in Lake Villa.
Webb lost to Lakes senior Megan Heuser, 6-0, 6-2, in the same title match as last year’s sectional. Heuser, who will play at Illinois, beat Webb, 6-0, 6-0, in that match and went on to win the state title.
Heuser will not get to defend her state title because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The IHSA decided the sectional would be the end of competition in tennis this season.
Webb, who does not have a team at R-B, won No. 1 singles in the Kishwaukee River Conference Tournament last week and took second Saturday in her only high school matches.
Johnsburg’s Gracie Cittadino, a state qualifier in doubles lat year, beat Woodstock North’s Sophia Ferru, 6-0, 6-0, for third place.
Heuser beat Cittadino, 6-0, 6-0, in the semifinals. Webb beat Ferru, 6-0, 6-0, in their semifinal match.
