The Farm System Reform Act will help our farmers

Dear Editor:

It's clear that we are stuck in a broken farm and food system. We deserve a resilient food system that is healthy and fair for everyone — workers, animals, eaters and farmers.

The Farm System Reform Act (S. 3221 and HR. 6718) is visionary, vital legislation introduced in Congress recently that will do just that. It will completely overhaul our federal farm policies to put farmers, consumers and waterways first. It will ban factory farms and transition our farmers out of our current disastrous model only built to benefit agribusiness giants.

If we want the kind of food and farm system that would help small and beginning farmers — like fairer markets, labels and enforcement of antitrust laws, we must put pressure on our representatives in the House and Senate to pass the Farm System Reform Act as soon as possible.
