Sycamore Public Library welcomes new director

SYCAMORE –  Kim Halsey is the new director of the Sycamore Public Library.

The library’s previous director, Monica Dombrowski, accepted the position of director for the Winnetka-Northfield Public Library District. Halsey will assume the Sycamore role this month.

Halsey previously was the adult service manager at the Sycamore Library and has been with the library for more than three years.

The Sycamore Public Library Board of Trustees said Halsey will “lead the way in innovative programming, services and community engagement.”

“The board had an easy decision in naming Kim as director,” Melissa Kendzora-Smith, board president, said in a news release. “She has been an asset to our library, and I’m certain she will continue to do great things. We look forward to seeing the positive developments she has in store for us.”

After graduating from University of Champaign-Urbana with a master’s degree in library information science, Halsey and her three teenage sons moved to DeKalb County.

Halsey said she is “driven by her conviction that libraries are pivotal components of flourishing communities,” and looks forward to working with existing patrons, prospective patrons and organizations to foster meaningful partnerships.

“I am excited to work with the Library Board of Trustees and staff to continue to serve the community through the many outstanding services the library has to offer,” Halsey said in the release. “I am also thrilled to lead the dedicated team at SPL. Now more than ever, it’s important that we continue to offer access to critical resources that both educate and bring joy to our community.”
