KVAL to donate collected art supplies to local charities

As part of its philanthropy program, for the last two months, members of the Kishwaukee Valley Art League have been donating new art supplies, which will be given to several local charity organizations.

This year, the art league collected 108 items including paints, brushes, canvases, colored sketch pencils and numerous other art supplies that will be presented to Barb City Manor, Safe Passage, Hope Haven, DeKalb County Nursing Home and Gracie Center. The estimated total amount of the donated items was $1,350.

Philanthropy co-chairs Cher Ladford and Matt Cabrera will distribute the supplies to the charities as part of KVAL’s “Art of Giving” program.

“We are blown away with the support and quality of the donations," Ladford said in a news release. "Not only do we get to give specific gifts that were requested to every charity, but also much more. We are so thankful to the KVAL members for the outpouring of support."

The Kishwaukee Art League does not hold a monthy general meeting in January, but the February meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Feb. 6 in the Hy-Vee Club Room. This month’s meeting will feature the “secret subject” challenge, where members will pull a one-word subject from sealed envelopes and create an art work that depicts their secret subject.

Applications for the 49th annual Northern Illinois Art Show, scheduled for June 6 and 7, are now available on the KVAL website. Interested artists can apply for one of the more popular and well-attended art shows in the area.

The Kishwaukee Art League is committed to promoting local artists and dedicated to the development of upcoming artists in the Kishwaukee Valley area. Hy-Vee and Waste Management are patron members of the organization.
