Hurley has big night for BV

Steamer bowlers take second at Dixon Toughman

Christen Hurley put up the second-highest single-game point total in the history of the Warkins Cardinal Classic to lead Bureau Valley to a 65-45 win over Morrison on Saturday.

She scored 33 points, hitting 11 shots from the field and 11-for-14 from the free-throw line. That total put her over 1,000 career points.

Saige Barnett added 16 points for the Storm, who jumped out to a 20-10 lead after one quarter and led 39-26 at halftime.

The Fillies got 19 points from Peyton Tegeler and eight from Hannah
Wallander.

Monmouth-Roseville 36, Erie 35: The Cardinals fell in their Warkins crossover despite leading 11-10 after one quarter and 16-12 at halftime.

Whitney Bramm led Erie with 10 points. Jenna Saad added eight.

Carly Gillen scored 19 for Monmouth-Roseville.

Wethersfield 55, Fulton 47: Liz Fish hit a pair of 3-pointers and went 5-for-6 from the free-throw line for 11 points, but it was not enough for the Steamers.

Fulton led 10-9 after one quarter, but got outscored 16-9 in the second and 15-12 in the third.

Brittney Litton led Wethersfield with 24 points.

Warkins Tournament

Morrison 49, Peoria Heights 42: The Mustangs got 21 points from Ben Brackemyer and pulled away from Peoria Heights late in Erie.

Morrison led 14-10 after one quarter and 20-16 at halftime, but 19 third-quarter points put Peoria Heights ahead 35-34 after three. Morrison then scored 15 points of its own in the fourth quarter to pull out the win.

Bureau Valley 62, Erie 42: The Storm overcame Erie's hot start to top the Cardinals.

Erie led 15-9 after one and 25-22 at halftime, but Bureau Valley scored 16 points in the third quarter and outscored Erie 24-6 in the fourth to win.

Nate Paup-Caudill scored 15 points for BV, Kale Barnett added 12, and Corbin Endress scored 10. Bureau Valley knocked down seven 3-pointers in the game, led by Tyler Gustafson’s three.

Erie got 12 points from Justice Youngberg.

Eastland Holiday Classic

Eastland 59, Stillman Valley 50: The Cougars finished off the tournament on their home floor by claiming fifth place.

Ethan Christians scored 23 points, with 12 of those coming in the fourth quarter. Kaden Henze and Reid Janssen each added 10.

Eastland trailed 19-10 after one quarter and 27-21 at halftime, but scored 20 points in the third quarter.

Prophetstown 68, South Beloit 54: The Prophets claimed seventh place at Eastland by jumping out to a quick start.

Prophetstown led the SoBos 16-5 after one quarter and 33-20 at halftime, and never looked back.

Logan Henrekin scored 26 points, and hit 6 of 7 free-throw attempts. Harrison Ames added 15 points, and Eric Robinson scored 12.

Warren 52, Amboy 33: Justin Hart’s 18 points and Hunter Zimmerly’s 10 points were not enough for the Clippers in a loss in Lanark.

Warren led 8-7 after one quarter, then held Amboy to four points in the second to take a 20-11 halftime lead before outscoring the Clippers 17-8 in the third.

Fulton second at Toughman: The Steamers rolled a 5,886 to claim second
place at the Dixon Toughman at Plum Hollow.

Freeport won by 242 pins, jumping out to a 5,063-4,836 lead after the morning session and closing strong to hold out in the Baker scores.

Dixon took fifth with a total of 5,542. Oregon was seventh with a 5,413.

Fulton’s Seth Sikkema rolled a 1,039 six-game series, with games of 206, 241 and 214. Teammate Alex Hartman had a series of 1,035, with games of 220, 234 and 208.

Dixon’s top series came from Tyler VanQuathem with a 944, one pin ahead of teammate Lucas Lauer. Lauer and Trevor White both had games of 234.

Oregon was led by Austin Strite with a 1,052 series and a game of 277.
